ABOUT THE PROJECT
After having created scarves with selected internationally exhibited artists, among them those who reflected the German state of mind during the Wende years in an art-historically significant café cycle or who are currently exploring the subject-subject situation and spatial boundaries in spray-paint traces, Martina Pinkenburg, Head of Europe of the tradition-steeped textile manufacturer from Como in Italy, has asked JAN HOLTHOFF for this FASHION PROJECT.
The textile maker from Como, Italy is an agent in the world of accessories and an integral part of the excellence of Made in Italy, from printing to weaving and packaging of finished products.
Numerous international design brands choose the guarantee of excellence from Como for their prêt-à-porter collections.
The company, founded in Como in 1945, is now one of the leading textile companies in the fashion accessories sector, both for women and men and, more recently, for children. The fabric manufacturer from Como, Italy designs and produces exclusive scarves and foulards with a very high creative content. It offers the great experience and professionalism of a team of creatives and stylists with their creative and technological skills, ready, smiling and with the most promising abilities for the conception and creation of special accessories that stand out and are recognizable for their quality and exclusivity. The most important thing is to create a refined, trendy and fully customizable product that has its own background of knowledge with careful study of details and in search of unique prints with strong personality. Ties, scarves, hats, stoles and gloves, tailored and marked by the efficiency of the Como tradition.
JAN HOLTHOFF discussed the possibility of such a project in depth, as well as in a critical and committed manner, with his main representatives in Berlin, Hamburg and Munich, and considered whether it would make sense to turn to the world of fashion in the context of his work.
Andy Warhol created shirts with the printed image of the pop-icon, Marilyn Monroe. However, JAN HOLTHOFF's painting breaks in its artistic placement with postmodernism which was laid to rest in the 1990s on Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY, and still reverberates a little sadly, and turns as a conceptual-gestural painter and critical thinker, always with people in mind, also ontologically thought-guiding with words or painterly means in color against the elitist refusal of postmodernism, which no longer grasped the sublime and the lucidly beautiful, and banished them for only a short while. HOLTHOFF travels the scenic and spiritual hotspots of our globe in order to negotiate our language and presence in being from a deepening of our own consciousness in word and painting.
The CARR'E and the FOULARD of JAN HOLTHOFF for ladies and gentlemen of all ages are the positioning of an "object", an "art thing" in the sense of Martin Heidegger and Rainer Maria Rilke, a design and proposal at the intersection of design, concept, art and testifies JAN HOLTHOFF's turning to the reality of life of strong women and men in the here-and-now of the metropolises NYC, Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Rhineland, Paris, London, Rome, Milan, Barcelona or Bangalore, which JAN HOLTHOFF has internalized in their intimacy.
The highest standards of craftsmanship, creativity, innovation and above all the human and sustainable entrepreneurial spirit of the Italian textile manufacturer from Como, especially the two great women and agents Martina and Laura, a Ciao and Aloha to both of you, have inspired JAN HOLTHOFF, and convinced him of the veracity of this FASHION PROJECTS by JAN HOLTHOFF in cooperation with the textile manufacturer from Como in Italy. The resulting CARR'E as well as the FOULARD for women and men reflect the meaningful coming together of painterly qualities within the feel of a textile, which negotiates the state of mind of every woman and man at the height of our times with the finest inkjet print on modal cashmere, and it signifies a synthesis saturated with longing on the highest spiritual and material level in its realized form.
The CARR'E and the FOULARD by JAN HOLTHOFF entwine the very sophisticated and highly charming - and not without eroticizing - a perfectly cashmere warm-tempered feeling; the elegant over-the-shoulders and chest pointing guides of the neck contour of every woman, as well as every man, on board of the air-conditioned, titanium white A380. It carries a proud indigo blue crane, signifying the German home, on the always pleasurable Star Alliance flight in a 12,500 meters cruising altitude from Dusseldorf Airport DUS to Newark Liberty International EWR, on every business or private mission through the corridor over the North Atlantic, and round off in an unmistakably radiant and admittedly treacherous smile on the face of the travelers and flight attendants– with a purpose to raise a glass of DEEP SUMMER or FRESH SPARKlING WINE, this unbearably condensed attitude to life and MOOD of the day on the way to the final worldwide destination.
Enjoy the ride on this lingering and exciting life time experience, that might start now! with your order of the CARR’E and FOULARD by JAN HOLTHOFF. It’s up to you. And have a safe trip home.
